Non-Toxic Food Storage Containers
Storage That Doesn’t Leach Into Your Leftovers.
Heating leftovers in plastic is basically marinating them in chemicals. BPA, phthalates, and whatever else is lurking in your plastic containers love heat — and your microwave is a chemical extraction device when plastic is involved. Glass doesn’t leach, doesn’t stain, doesn’t make your food taste like last Tuesday’s curry, and it’ll outlive us all. Stainless steel and food-grade silicone are solid too.

Glass Storage
Glass is completely non-porous, stain-proof, and safe for going straight from the freezer to the oven. It doesn’t leach chemicals, doesn’t absorb odors, and won’t make your leftovers taste like the container they came in. It’s also the only option that works for meal prep, fridge storage, pantry organization, and reheating — all without switching containers.
What to look for: Borosilicate glass for anything going in the oven or microwave — it handles thermal shock better than standard soda-lime glass. Tempered glass is fine for cold storage. Avoid colored or decorated glass containers; the glazes and dyes can contain heavy metals.

Stainless Steel
Virtually indestructible, lightweight, and completely plastic-free — stainless steel is the go-to for on-the-go meals and anything you’re not microwaving. No coatings, no chemicals, no flavor transfer. Just food-grade steel doing its thing.
What to look for: 18/8 or 18/10 stainless steel — both are food-safe and fully PFAS-free. Avoid containers that only say “stainless” with no grade listed, and skip anything with plastic lids that touch food directly.

Silicone Storage
Food-grade platinum silicone is a genuinely non toxic, flexible alternative to plastic bags and containers. It’s heat-safe, dishwasher-friendly, freezer-safe, and doesn’t leach chemicals into your food. One reusable silicone bag replaces hundreds of single-use plastic bags — and unlike plastic, it actually gets cleaner in the dishwasher instead of just looking clean.
What to look for: Platinum-cured silicone with FDA and/or LFGB certification — LFGB is the stricter European standard and a higher bar than FDA alone. Avoid cheap silicone bags with plastic sliders or glued seams; those components can degrade and contaminate your food. The pinch test: if it turns white when pinched, it has fillers. Pass.
- 100% platinum food-grade silicone — free of BPA, BPS, lead, latex, and phthalates
- Leak-free Pinch-Loc seal is safe for the dishwasher, microwave, oven, and freezer
- One reusable bag replaces 260+ single-use plastic bags annually
- SA8000-certified manufacturing; partners with TerraCycle for responsible recycling
- 100% platinum silicone — no glue, no plastic sliders, no adhesives of any kind
- Single-piece construction means nothing to degrade, crack, or contaminate your food
- Stands up, stays open while filling, zips shut — actually more functional than Ziploc
- Made in the USA; FDA approved; free of BPA, lead, PVC, latex, and phthalates
- 100% LFGB-certified silicone — one solid piece, no chemicals, glues, or adhesives
- Curved corners mean no hidden buildup spots; flip inside out to clean or toss in the dishwasher
- Safe for microwave, freezer, oven, Instant Pot, and sous vide
- Clear front panel lets you see (and label) contents without opening the bag
Dry Storage
Plastic canisters off-gas into whatever they’re holding — flour, oats, coffee — especially as they scratch and age. Glass is inert, won’t absorb odors, and a proper airtight seal keeps moisture and pests out. Bonus: you can see what you have, so you stop buying a third bag of lentils you forgot existed.
What to look for: Borosilicate or soda-lime glass with a silicone gasket in the lid seal — not bare plastic-to-glass contact. BPA and BPS-free lid materials are the floor; third-party PFAS testing is the ceiling. Avoid anything that just says “airtight” with no detail on how the seal actually works.
- High-resistance glass — inert, scratch-resistant, won’t absorb odors or off-gas into dry goods
- Third-party tested for 200+ types of PFAS and 20+ heavy metals; free of BPA, BPS, PFOA, and forever chemicals
- True Airtight Seal uses a silicone gasket and a toggle switch on the lid — locks out air, moisture, and pests
- Includes a magnetic storage organizer so your pantry doesn’t immediately devolve into chaos
- Glass lid with food-grade silicone seal — no plastic contact with your dry goods anywhere in the system
- Lead-free, cadmium-free, BPA-free — Pyrex discloses what’s not in it, which is more than most brands do
- Six graduated sizes from 1.5 to 18 cups — covers everything from spices to a full bag of flour
- Dishwasher-safe glass; sleek enough to live on the counter without embarrassing you

- USDA certified food grade glass, made in the USA — Ball has been a pantry staple since 1884
- Airtight grommet lids are BPA-free and leakproof — built for fermentation, canning, and everything that ends up in your fridge
- Wide mouth means easy filling, easy cleaning, and easy stacking — works for kombucha, kefir, pickles, sun tea, or dry goods
- 6-pack of 16oz jars — the classic size that fits most fridge doors and handles everything from single servings to small-batch ferments
Why No Plastic?
BPA-Free Isn’t the Whole Story — and the Industry Knows It.
When BPA became a PR problem, manufacturers pulled it and replaced it with BPS, BPF, and other bisphenol compounds that behave almost identically in your body. “BPA-free” often just means “we swapped the villain for its equally sketchy cousin.” On top of that, even bisphenol-free plastics like polypropylene and Tritan have unresolved questions about other leaching compounds — especially under heat, UV exposure, or when scratched from regular use. The science isn’t finished, but it’s not looking great for plastic.
Glass, stainless steel, and platinum-cured silicone are genuinely inert. They don’t leach, don’t react with food, and don’t require a PhD in chemistry to vet. That’s why you won’t find plastic food storage containers on this page — not because plastic containers don’t exist, but because I’d rather just point you to things that are actually clean.
