Non-Toxic Pillows
Your Face Is on This for 8 Hours. Choose Wisely.
Most conventional pillows are polyurethane foam or memory foam off-gassing VOCs directly into your face while you sleep. Eight hours a night, every night. Natural fills — wool, latex, kapok, buckwheat hulls — offer the same (and often better) support and breathability without any of the chemical load. Every pick on this page is GOTS, GOLS, or OEKO-TEX certified at minimum.

Wool Pillows
Wool pillows are naturally temperature-regulating, moisture-wicking, and resistant to dust mites — without any chemical treatments. Merino wool in particular is soft and breathable, making it one of the best fill options for hot sleepers or anyone who wakes up sweaty.
What to look for: GOTS-certified wool fill and organic cotton covers. Avoid pillows that only say “wool” without a certification — conventional wool can be treated with pesticides, bleaches, and flame retardants before it ever reaches your pillowcase.

- GOTS certified organic through the fill and the cover, not just the fabric you can see
- Wool holds up to 30% of its weight in moisture and still feels dry, so night sweats leave your skin instead of pooling on the surface
- The wool sits inside an organic cotton sateen shell, so your cheek is on cotton all night
- Peel a sheet of wool out through the side zipper for a lower loft, lay one back in when it settles. 60-night trial

- Two chambers in one cover: firm buckwheat hulls on one side, soft organic wool on the other, with a divider so the fills never mix
- Flip it by the night — buckwheat when your neck needs holding, wool when you want soft and silent
- Each side adjusts on its own through the zipper, so firm and soft are both set to you
- About 10 pounds, which keeps it planted on the bed instead of migrating up to the headboard at 4am

- GOTS certified organic cotton cover + woolen ball fill — the ball structure (not loose batting) acts like tiny coils to resist clumping and maintain shape far better than most natural-fiber pillows
- Wool is one of the most temperature-regulating natural fibers available — wicks moisture, creates air pockets that insulate in winter and shed heat in summer; breathable by design
- Medium-firm feel: more substantial than down, without the springy rebound of latex — best for side and back sleepers who want structured support; MADE SAFE® and GREENGUARD Gold certified
- Removable, machine-washable outer encasement; 30-night trial, 1-year warranty, made in the USA
- 100% GOTS certified organic Merino wool fill — zero toxic chemicals or synthetics
- Naturally temperature-regulating wool wicks away moisture so you stay dry and cool
- Naturally resistant to dust mites, mold, and mildew without the use of pesticides

- Pure virgin wool fill — ethically sourced from humanely raised sheep, chemical-free and non-toxic
- Handcrafted in California with an organic cotton cover — soft, supportive, and built to last years
- Naturally temperature-regulating, moisture-wicking, and dust-mite resistant without chemicals; HSA/FSA eligible

- GOTS-certified organic wool fill wrapped in GOTS-certified organic cotton — never bleached, never dyed, zero chemical treatments. The small-batch, handmade-in-Washington pick on this page.
- The wool keeps about 1% of its natural lanolin, which is exactly what makes it genuinely dust-mite resistant and temperature-regulating — it wicks moisture and sheds heat instead of trapping it against your face all night.
- Pick your loft (Light, Perfect, or Extra Thick) — and since it’s just wool inside a cotton shell, you can open it up and pull a little out to dial in the exact height your neck wants.
- OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, Fair Trade organic cotton, handcrafted in the USA in small batches.
Latex Pillows
Natural latex offers responsive, bouncy support that holds its shape without bottoming out — the closest thing to memory foam without any of the off-gassing. GOLS-certified organic latex is the gold standard; both Talalay (softer, more breathable) and Dunlop (denser, more supportive) are solid options depending on your sleep style.
What to look for: GOLS certification on the latex itself — not just a “natural latex” claim. Pair it with a GOTS-certified organic cotton cover. Shredded latex gives adjustable loft; solid latex gives consistent, predictable support. Skip anything marketed as “gel latex” or “cooling foam” with no material disclosure.

- Slow-pour Dunlop latex tapped from rubber trees in Sri Lanka, then shredded so the height is yours to set
- OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified at Class 1 — the strictest tier, the one used for products made for babies
- Open-cell structure lets air move through all night instead of building a heat pocket under your head
- Pushes back instead of sinking: the memory foam feel without the memory foam. 60-night trial

- GOTS certified organic cotton cover + GOLS or FSC® certified shredded latex fill — fully certified from cover to core, not just the outside
- Adjustable loft: remove or add fill to dial in your preferred height and firmness — works for side, back, and combination sleepers
- No polyurethane foam, no off-gassing — GOTS certified organic latex from rubber tree sap, not petrochemical foam, applied to where your face actually is all night
- Washable cover; made in the USA; the rare pillow where you can actually verify what’s inside it
- Natural kapok + latex fill offers soft support that breathes and bounces — eco-friendly alternative to foam
- GOTS & OEKO-TEX organic cotton cover — hypoallergenic and chemical-free
- Stays airy and supportive all night

- GOLS-certified organic shredded latex + natural kapok fill — bouncy, breathable, and free of synthetic materials
- Adjustable fill lets you dial in your preferred loft and firmness — soft feel with latex resilience
- Organic cotton cover, sustainably sourced materials, 3-year warranty

- GOTS-certified organic cotton cover + GOLS-certified organic latex fill — non-toxic at the material level, not just the marketing level

- Two-pack for $99 — outfit an entire bed for less than most single splurge pillows

- GOLS-certified solid, perforated latex core wrapped in a GOTS-certified organic cotton cover — one piece, no shredded fill to shift or clump
- MADE SAFE and GREENGUARD Gold certified; no chemical flame retardants, fiberglass, vinyl/PVC, or polyurethane foam
- Responsive latex contours to head and neck for side, back, and stomach sleepers
- Made in the USA; available in Standard and Queen sizes; 120-night trial, 10-year warranty, free shipping
Plant-Based Pillows
Kapok feels like down without the allergens or animal products. Buckwheat hulls give firm, moldable support and serious airflow — the cooling pick for hot sleepers who want something that actually breathes. Herbal fills are newer but worth a look for sensitive sleepers. All plant-derived, all naturally non-toxic.
What to look for: GOTS-certified organic cotton covers and certified-organic fill where available. Kapok and buckwheat are naturally non-toxic but certifications confirm the cover hasn’t been treated with pesticides or finishes. Adjustable fill is a bonus — lets you dial in loft without buying a new pillow.

- GOTS certified organic from the fill to the cover under licence GOTS-10229, not just the outer fabric
- Dense long-staple cotton that feels like a great hotel pillow and holds that shape for years
- Nothing to get used to — no smell, no noise, medium loft straight out of the bag
- Side zipper sets the height, and refills are sold so you top it up instead of replacing it

- Hollow kapok fibers are 80 to 90% air, so it feels like down with nothing from an animal in it
- Gathered from ceiba seed pods that ripen and fall, with nothing applied to the fiber on the way to your bed
- The waxy coating on each fiber turns water away, which is why kapok resists mold and mildew untreated
- Organic cotton cover, adjustable through the side zipper, and the one I sleep on

- The hulls flex under your head and then lock, holding your neck exactly where you set it all night
- The coolest fill they make — air moves between the hulls instead of getting trapped the way it does in foam
- USA-grown hulls, never roasted, air-jet polished so they run quieter than standard buckwheat
- Pour hulls out for a lower pillow, and refresh with a bag of hulls years later instead of buying another pillow

- Six feet of pillow (20″ x 72″) in your pick of kapok, organic cotton, organic wool or shredded latex
- Long enough to run from shoulder past knees for side sleepers, or wrap under a bent leg through pregnancy
- Arrives about a third fuller than most people keep it — open the zipper and set the firmness to your body
- Organic cotton cover, and the cotton and wool versions are GOTS certified organic

- Lightweight kapok fill feels soft like down with steady support and breathability
- Covered in 100% GOTS organic cotton — hypoallergenic and chemical-free
- Removable fill lets you adjust loft and firmness to suit your sleep style
- Organic buckwheat hulls conform to head and neck for firm, breathable support
- Organic cotton shell with hidden zipper — fully adjustable fill to dial in your loft
- Buckwheat hulls allow airflow to help keep the pillow cool all night
- Breathable herbal-infused fibers designed for comfortable, supportive sleep
- OEKO-TEX Standard 100 tested fabric and fill
- Machine washable with breathable construction for everyday use
